I've tried multiple ways to clear out the Letter P ( blue box ) on the Far Left Column of the Target Selection Tab. I am aware this indicates an active Project.

Although......the projects ( Eastern & Western Veil ) do not appear in the Scheduler Tab.
The projects are marked complete in the Observations Tab - so it makes sense for the projects not to show up in the Scheduler Tab.

But why are these completed projects still showing up in the Target Selection Tab ? The Observations Tab indicates the projects are complete.

I have included screens shots for reference - hoping I would find the answer easily in this forum and something simple I am overlooking.

thank you in advance
Hello,

The "P" indicates that there exists an Imaging Project for this target that is assigned to the selected Observing Program. It's not meant to indicate if the project is active or not. The removal of completed projects is integral to the workings of the Scheduler, but it isn't for the Target Selection Tool. On the Target Selection tool its merely informational.

If you are truly done with a target in the Target Selection tool, you have several options:

1. Delete it from the list
2. Use the Observation Status and select its status as "Observed." Then you can filter the ones that are already observed from the list by right-clicking on the observation status column heading.

If you would find it useful for the Target Selection Tool, I could consider changing the "P" icon to indicate the status of the project. I could also add the ability to filter out projects that are completed.

thank you for the follow up - yes sir, I understand all that you mentioned but am still a bit confused. When I changed the status to Completed in the Observation Tab on previous Projects, the "P" disappeared in the Target Selection Tab except the Projects I mentioned in my original comments.

It's not a problem - I was just curious how to make the "P" disappear in the Target Selection Tab when the project was completed.

Hello again,

I can't explain that. The completion status is not intended to be reflected on the Target selection tool. Other things can though - such as the Observing Program selection.

P.S. I suppose it could have been an unrelated glitch. Kind of like the quote not working correctly above.

Understood.....one last question

Why do targets continue to show up in the Target Selection Tab with the Letter "P" if the Project for that particular Target has been marked complete in the Project Manager Tab ?

I know it's not a big deal, but if the Target has already been imaged and completed - I would think it would not show up again in the Target Selection Tab

I must be losing my ability to communicate clearly. I'm sure some people would suggest I never had it!

Let me rephrase:

1. The Scheduler needs to track whether or not a project has been completed so it doesn't continue to be scheduled and to clutter the target list

2. The Target Selection tool has no such requirement

3. I did not design the Target Selection tool to consider whether or not a project has been completed. Therefore, what you are seeing is the intended behavior.

To repeat, the P does not indicate an "Active" project. It merely indicates a Project Exists.

In my original response I suggested some alternatives to track and/or filter out targets that have completed projects, independent of the "P" in the project column.

Hopefully that clears it up. If you have more questions, please ask. I will try to be more clear with my answers.

As the final follow up to this particular subject regarding the Letter P in the Target Selection Tab.

While in the Target Selection Tab, I use the Deep Sky Columns layout with modifications to reduce the amount of columns.

On targets that have an existing Project ( Letter P ) I have logged Observations with various filters ( see Observation attachment )
The Option to show the Progress of Observations has been checked ( see Status attachment )
That column does not appear in the Target Selection Tab on the targets with the Letter P ( see Target attachment )
Is there something I am overlooking ?

I enjoy the software....hopefully I'll understand why some things don't make sense currently.

Hello,

I think that there may be a basic misunderstanding. The Target Selection tool looks like a basic spreadsheet where you can keep track of everything, but that's not really what its about. It is common for people to mistake it for the main part of the program. But it is merely the first step in imaging:

1. Select an appropriate target (Target Selection tool + other tools)
2. Create an Imaging project that sets goals for your project (Smart Project Builder, Imaging Project tools)
3. Schedule your projects (and track your progress) using the Scheduler

The idea is that once you are on to step 3 you are essentially finished with step 1. The Scheduler is the where you can track the progress of your projects. Make sense?

On the Target Selection tool there is a column to keep track of the status of your projects, but to tell you the truth, its primarily there as a hold over from SkyTools Visual. Because it can be useful, I included it here. Its a sort of side cheat that people may want to use. For example, in my project to image more narrow band targets in order to extend the narrow band database, I use this column to keep track of whether or not I have imaged a project. I also make use of the Notes and Notes brief columns to keep track. This is a big project that includes a lot of targets, and there are steps outside of observing, such as reducing the data. But its not a progress column, and it is not tied to the progress of your project. Its more of a status column: Not yet Observed, Observed, and Re-observe. This is the Observation Status column: right click in the column and on the column heading to see how it works.

Yeah- I know I just said that the Target Selection Tool isn't meant to be used in that way. Cool

I suppose I could just bite the bullet and include an actual progress column, but on the other hand, what's wrong with tracking progress on the Scheduler?

I guess I am catching on

This is the confusing part on the Target Selection Tab

your comment "  On the Target Selection tool there is a column to keep track of the status of your projects, but to tell you the truth, its primarily there as a hold over from SkyTools Visual."

When I see a Column like that in a Chart, I automatically assume it is linked to the Scheduler and Observation data - it's my misunderstanding, I will remove the Status Column from the Target Selection Tab beings it does not provide an actual status of a project.

One last question ( hopefully ) - Eastern Veil Nebula Project shown in the Scheduler Tab ( see attached ) The completion % shows No Progress ?

Yet, I have logged Observations ( see attached )

Let me know what I'm doing wrong please
Hello,

Ah, an easy one to answer. For each of your observations their quality is described as "Good." At the top of the dialog, you have chosen the minimum acceptable quality to be "Very Good." As a result, none of the observations are passing the minimum acceptable quality test.
