Target Lists and interactive atlas - Bertrand Laville - 2025-04-07

Hi All, Hi Chris,

When displaying the interactive atlas, one can add "my attachements".

Would it be possible to display (with a sign to recognize them ?) all the objects of the observing list your are currently using ?
It would be great if the listed objects could be displayed as "any", "logged", or "unlogged".

By this way, one might choose the objects of his target list to be seen as a spreadsheet, as ST4 does routinely, and at their own position in the sky with interactive atlas.
Especially, when observing a given target, this will allow to visualise the neighboring targets of his target list.

Thanks, and clear sky (not really true in western Europ presently   Shy )

Hi Bertrand,

You don't state which version of SkyTools you're using, but ST4.1.14 Visual Pro does have a filter for the Observing Lists (OL) that can be set to 'Any', 'Logged' and 'Unlogged'. Then only objects with the desired Log state will be displayed in the OL. You could also sort the OL on the Log column, apply Check marks to the appropriate Logged or Unlogged objects, then RClick on a Check mark and select one of the 'View ... for all Checked entries' options. SkyTools will display the items as appropriate. This should work in ST4.0, too.

ST 4.1.11.14 Imaging doesn't support the Log function.

Is this what you're trying to do?

Hope this helps,

Phil S.

Hi Phil,

Thank yous so much for your answer.
I use ST4.1.14 Visual pro and I manage it with much pleasure and success.

I know all the possibilities you describe, and I use them routinely.
I haven't probably well describe my purpose: I have no problem with any OL, which are currently displayed by ST4 visual as a spreadsheet.

What I would wish is to display the targets of an OL on the interactive atlas.
Tet me give you an exemple:
OL: all the Dunlop doubles stars, with m<7.0v, and separation > 3.0".
In the spreadsheet of this OL (that I have done without problem), I click on, said, DUN 126, then "more infos", then interactive atlas.
I can see the sky centered on DUN 126. If my telescope is connected, I click on the star identified as DUN 126A, and the scope points at it.
As long as I do that, I have no problem.

But, on the map of the interactive atlas, I haven't any indication of where the others Dunlop double stars of my OL are.
Perhaps they are numerous on the surrounding, perhaps they are sparse, perhaps most of them are too low to be correctly observed, or too high in the forbidden zenith of my dobson, and so on. Perhaps, I have already observed the one on the right, and no the one on the left of the map.
All the answers of the questions might be visually resolved in second, if I would be able to see these DUN xxx on the map of the interactive atlas..

I think this feature would be a big 'plus" for visual observers.
Regards
Bertrand

Hi Bertrand,

I can't think of a way to show other DUN stars on the Interactive Atlas (IA) if the IA is opened from the Object Info (OI) dialog.

You could do it from the Nightly Planner if it has only DUN stars in it. Just put Check marks on all of the DUN stars, then RClick on one of the Check marks.

Hope this helps,

Phil S.

Hi Phil

Thanks, thanks, thanks !!!
Your solution is precise and gives a perfect response to my question.
I never saw this possibility of ST4 visual !

Thanks once more

Hi Bertrand,

Glad that that works for you.

The Check marks can do even more. If you have a Nightly Planner Observing List (OL) with stars in addition to DUN stars for example, and if you can sort the OL on a column (perhaps the Alternate ID column) that puts all of the DUN stars together, then you can apply Check marks to only the DUN stars. Then you can RClick on one of the Check marks and select one of the 'View ... for all Checked entries' options as desired.

By RClicking on the Check at the top of the Check column, you can apply or remove Checks to the whole OL or just the displayed objects in the list, too. There are several other operations that are available for the Checked objects in an OL that make OL management easier, such as Copy, Move or Delete.

Hope this helps,

Phil S.
