Hello Bram,
Thank you for reaching out on our forum. I understand that you're experiencing some frustration with the software, and I'm here to help guide you through it.
I guess you edited your, but thankfully the email notification I got had your full message, because the part you edited helped me understand the issue.
To those reading, here is the rest of the post:
1. When I set all objects with log entries to "Observed", and then uncheck "Show Observed", several objects with log entries appear, which weren't appearing when all "Show All" was current status. It took some wrangling, but I was finally able to get all the logged objects to "Observed". I'm not even sure what steps I took at this point.
2. I want to sort the list by DEC, but it won't let me in the nightly planner, nor in the real-time observing mode. In nightly planner, the message is "Column sorting is disabled from pre-sorted Observing Plans". Any idea how I can overcome this?
For 1, it appears that this needed refreshing. Given the Sky Tour mode you were in a list refresh is a big calculation and I attempt to minimize it. It looks like I need to revisit that code.
To align the software with your observing goals, I recommend using the Nightly Planner feature. Real Time is for use at the telescope and takes some care o use. For the Nightly Planner, first, you'll need to turn off Sky Tour mode. Sky Tour is a good tool, but is not the best fit for what you're trying to achieve right now. Once you switch to the Nightly Planner, you'll find that it allows for a more tailored approach to planning your observations, including the ability to sort by Declination. This feature can indeed be useful, especially if you're looking to create a sub-list of objects within a certain Declination range.
I understand you may find this a bit overwhelming at first, but the Nightly Planner is a powerful tool that goes beyond a simple spreadsheet. It's designed to enhance your observational planning with its specialized features.
To get more comfortable with SkyTools, I highly recommend revisiting the basics of the software. Familiarizing yourself with the different modes and when to use them can greatly reduce your frustration and improve your overall experience. Our Help system is a great resource for this – you can access it by clicking the help button on each tool within the software. Additionally, we have a variety of YouTube tutorials that can guide you through these features. You can find them here:
