Update to Version 4.x.11.10
#1
Hello,
I have released an update to SkyTools version 4.x.11.10
Here is a list of fixes and additions:
  • Visual: Fixed a problem with the Plan feature of the Nightly Planner that sometimes led to blank plans
  • Imaging Smart Project Builder: the Auto choice was removed from the Binning selection because it was confusing and inconsistent with how other parts of SkyTools worked. When color composite mode is selected and Binx1, options will be presented that include Binx2 for color filters (RGB), just like the Auto selection did previously.
  • Imaging Smart Project Builder: The "region" label for stellar objects (stars, quasars, minor planets, etc.) consisted of garbled characters.
  • Imaging Schedule: a printed schedule sometimes overwrite one line with another.
  • Imaging Scheduler: added a feature to copy the schedule to the Windows clipboard in addition to printing it
  • Imaging 4.1: the help system has been improved for many new version 4.1 features or changes, and entering Gain Settings in particular.
  • Various minor fixes

Hi Greg,

When I started ST4v 4.1.11.07 this morning I got this News screen after startup:

I've been getting this same screen since May & didn't think anything of it. There was no option/prompt to install the Update to 4.1.11.10. I was able to Get the Update manually via the Setup>Updates, Registration and Feedback>Check for Updates path. ST4 Imaging and Visual are still showing the same News screen from May 3 after the newly installed Update. I've kept the News screen because it offers easy access to your Comet Hunting page.

Just thought that you'd like to know about the absense of a notification in SkyTools about the Update this time.

When I ran the program it asked me if I wanted to update to the new version. It worked fine for me

Hi Phil,

The way I imagined this would work is that people would check the box to dismiss the dialog. Then it only comes back when I update the data that it works from. I didn't actually update this information yet for version 4.x11.10, so you are still seeing the old one.

But I am pretty sure there were more recent versions than V4.x.11.07... I wonder if not having ticked the box is blocking new ones from appearing? I'll have to look into it.

More importantly, what is your current version on the About dialog? The latest is version 4.x.11.10.

Also, the check for updates was not working the way I had intended it to work. I fixed it so it now works differently. To keep starting up working as quickly as possible, it is supposed to only check for updates every few hours or so. So if you recently started SkyTools and it did the check, and no new version was found, then if you start it again, it won't even check to see if there is a new version until several hours have passed. My guess is that you ran into that. Maybe I should shorten the time period.

Sorry, I forgot to state that SkyTools manual update performed the update to version 4.1.11.10 flawlessly, FWIW.

Hi Greg,

When I start SkyTools at the start of the day, I never close it until I shut down the computer in the evening. I like to work with it throughout the day. Unless it's performing MP DB updates it doesn't consume significant machine resources. At that it only uses one thread of one of the 12 cores on the machine (~4%). You've created some very efficient code, thank you very much.

The software is so big now, that it is possible for me to lose track of things, especially if I haven't used a specific feature myself in a while. So everyone - please be sure to let me know if you can't find a feature that you would expect to be there, or a help page that is missing, or blank, or out of date. Please report anything like that you find.

Thanks!

Greg
