My guess is that it is in the list after all, its just either being filtered out or not where you are looking for it.
The first thing to try is to select "Rest Filters" from the Observing List menu. Does it appear now?
Next, try sorting on magnitude by clicking on the Mag column header. M97 should appear between the Whirlpool and M110.
If you still don't see it, how did you go about adding it? Perhaps something went wrong there.
