Thumbs Up Add a second listing of the same object? [Solved: Supplemental, used conservatively]
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-20, 01:28 AM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Visual? - Replies (3)

In a list like Harrington's Cosmic Challenge, the list calls for the same object to be added more than once (e.g., the moon) because additional listings focus on different features of the same object. How would I add a second copy of the same object?

Thumbs Up Is there a way to configure a "field of view?" [Answered: Coming]
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-19, 04:47 PM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Visual? - Replies (2)

How hard would it be to go ahead and add a configurable field of view indicator? I would configure one to be 2 degrees 10 minutes and 29 seconds by 1 degree 27 min 5 seconds - the exact size of my field of view with a RASA 11 teamed with a ZWO ASI2600MC Pro. Obviously, this is for EAA - and maybe you're working on that, Greg, for the EAA module. (I hope?) Boy -- getting that field of view indicator (like Stellarium can show) is so awesome for getting a sense of size for object viewing, right? Maybe this is available in the Imaging side. Or maybe I just need to wait for the EAA module. I approximated it with an eyepiece, but it's round - and it doesn't show the rectangular perspective of my 2600. First-world problems, right?

Thumbs Up Is there a "find" for an observing target list? [Answered: Not a feature.]
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-19, 03:47 PM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Visual? - Replies (3)

Suppose I have an observing list with 400 objects and I suddenly have an interest in one particular object - but primary designations are all mixed up using common names and designations. Is there something equivalent to ctrl-F to "find" a target in the active list?

Thumbs Up Is there any way to import observations? [Answered: coming in version 4.1]
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-18, 05:06 AM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Visual? - Replies (8)

I'm enjoying learning SkyTools.
Let's say I'd like to import my previous observations. How would I do that? Is there any kind of bulk import capability - say, from a CSV list from another application or even from spreadsheet records?

Thumbs Up Answered: custom fields? (not a feature at this time)
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-16, 05:06 PM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Visual? - Replies (5)

Brand new user. Thanks to Greg for the amazing capabilities in this application.
Curious... Does SkyTools 4 allow users to create custom fields? ... for example, a custom field to enter a catalog number in a user-specified list (like O'Meara's Secret Deep catalog/list?)?

  O'Meara's "The Secret Deep"
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-16, 01:13 PM - Forum: Sumbitted Observing/Target Lists - Replies (2)

This list is taken from Steve O'Meara's book, The Secret Deep. I live-streamed my way through this list on YouTube using electronically-assisted astronomy techniques, and it was a lot of fun. It's available as a 9-video playlist.

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLdkGi...nWlza5gQfT

Keep in mind - I've only owned SkyTools for 12 hours - but Greg seems to have made it that easy to get started. But tell me what I can do better.

For example, to improve this list, I'm guessing I'll learn how to create a user-defined field ... and then enter the Secret Deep Number (identified by O'Meara with an "x" as in "X marks the spot" of pirate booty) in that custom field, right? Either way, I hope this at least gets the discussion started.

Thumbs Up Answered: How to "associate" objects (not a feature at this time)
Posted by: EmeraldHillsSkies - 2024-01-16, 05:34 AM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Visual? - Replies (26)

Just purchased SkyTools 4 Pro today. I'm liking it a lot so far. I have marked quick observations for several catalogs. Is there a way to see the total objects I've observed across all lists?

Also, how might I associate a group of targets together? For example, something like a galaxy cluster in the same field of view. Can it be done?

For what it's worth, I entered the entire O'Meara Secret Deep list. If it would be helpful to share it as a list, how do I upload it so others can grab it?

Thanks for all the fine work that has gone into this application. It was super-quick to enter targets tonight.

Doug

PS. Here's a screen shot from Astroplanner, demonstrating the way it shows the total observations in the top bar - and the way it "associates" objects in a list (attached).

  Displaying images/sky survey images
Posted by: markusd112 - 2023-12-28, 12:18 PM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Imaging? - Replies (12)

Hi,

I am looking for a way to quickly display some "pretty picture" from an object in my target list and / or in the interactive atlas.

I tried the "download DSS image" options and several of the available download sources there, but I didn't find any pictures in the repositories that gives me some idea how the object looks in RGB.

Is there any simple way that I haven't seen?

Wouldn't it be some idea for a feature in the interactive atlas to enable via a button some sort of sky survey image data, like in stellarium (Digitized Sky Survey (TOAST) button), which gives you some idea of the sky region/object.

Some good example is the "Deep Sky Compendium" from Gary Imm: it is an excel list with several deep sky objects. If you move the mouse over some list item, a "pretty picture preview" is visible, that would be great in ST4 too:

Thanks,

Markus

  Transfer Settings to another PC/Laptop
Posted by: midnight_lightning - 2023-12-20, 01:14 PM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Imaging? - Replies (9)

Hi,

I just purchased ST and am starting to set it up on my Home PC, once done I will probably use it mostly on my Laptop or Observatory PC. I have had a look around for how to transfer the settings but couldn't find anything - presumably there is a configuration files(s) somewhere that I just need to copy into a folder that will populate the new PC with equipment details etc?.

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

N.I.N.A. Sequences Expect Filter Wheels and Rotators
Posted by: portopa - 2023-12-13, 05:07 AM - Forum: How do I do it in SkyTools 4 Imaging? - Replies (2)

Unless I'm doing something wrong, it appears Sequences sent over to N.I.N.A. will stop and prompt on each target asking for the rotator and filter to be set.  I don't have an auto-rotator, nor even a filter wheel, so this was an issue for me, especially with dozens of targets in the sequence. Maybe the Schedule's Plan Settings could have check boxes to disable the need for filters and rotation, if needed.  But for now, I came up with an easy workaround.  Simply select and connect to the Filter Wheel Simulator [.Net] in and Rotator Simulator .Net in N.I.N.A, then the sequence will flow without interruption.

Anyone else encounter this?

Paul
